Properties panel
Inspect and edit everything about the selected entity.
The Properties panel (properties pane) docks on the right side of the editor. Select any markup and the panel shows only the controls that apply to that entity. Every change applies live on the canvas — there is no separate Apply button.
Opening the panel
- Click the Properties toggle in the toolbar (chevron on the right edge).
- Keyboard: ⌘+Shift+] toggles the right pane open and closed.
- On mobile, use the modal pill for quick stroke and fill edits; the full panel is available on larger layouts.
Modify styles on a selection
- 1Select
Activate the Select tool (
V) and click an entity, or drag a marquee around several. - 2Open Properties
If the right pane is hidden, press
⌘⇧]/Ctrl+Shift+]or use the toolbar toggle until the panel is visible. - 3Edit stroke
In the Stroke section, change color, opacity, width (scrub the slider or type a number), linetype, and arrowheads on open paths. See Stroke & linetype.
- 4Edit fill
For closed shapes, use Fill to turn fill on or off, pick a color, set opacity, and choose solid, hatch, or pattern. See Fill, hatch & patterns.
- 5Edit text or size
Text and callouts expose Text controls; rectangles and images expose Transform (position and size). Paths show Geometry for segment-level options.
Tool defaults (nothing selected)
When a drawing tool is active and nothing is selected, the panel shows what the next mark will look like — stroke width for the Polyline tool, fill color for Highlight, and for Region fill both Fill and Gap tolerance (Small / Medium / Large / Custom). Adjust these before clicking on the canvas.
Controls you'll use often
- Scrub sliders — drag the label or value horizontally to adjust width, opacity, or size; release to commit.
- Color swatches — open the palette, pick a preset, or use the custom editor for hex values.
- Linetype & arrowheads — dropdown previews show how the stroke will render at the current width.
- Enable fill toggle — turn fill off for outline-only polygons and rectangles without deleting the shape.
- Mixed label — when multiple entities are selected and they disagree on a field, the panel shows Mixed until you set a new value for all of them.
Before you draw vs. after
With nothing selected, scroll to Defaults in the same panel to set the stroke, fill, and text style that new entities will inherit. Draw your next line or shape and it picks up those settings automatically.
To restyle markup you already placed, select it and edit Stroke / Fill directly — existing geometry updates in place. You can also right-click for actions like duplicate or offset; styling stays in the Properties panel.
